GOLDENWAX® 464 is AAK's soy-based vegetable candle wax developed primarily for scented container candles.

The European version is manufactured in Sweden and supplied in a convenient pastille format. It offers a low melting point, good fragrance performance, a smooth opaque finish and good adhesion to suitable candle containers.

AAK describes GOLDENWAX® 464 as a premium formulation based on sustainably sourced soybean oil, suitable for use either on its own or as part of a custom wax blend.

Technical Information

Processing

Gradually heat the wax until fully melted.

For practical candle making, approximately 60–70 °C is generally sufficient.

Avoid unnecessary prolonged overheating.

Fragrance

A practical starting fragrance range is approximately:

6–10%.

The final load depends on the fragrance, applicable IFRA limits, wick, container and finished candle formulation.

A useful starting fragrance-addition temperature is approximately 60–65 °C.

Do not select the addition temperature solely on the basis of whether a fragrance is citrus, spicy or belongs to another fragrance family.

Pouring

A practical starting pour range is approximately:

55–65 °C.

If the top sets unevenly, adjust the pour temperature and cooling conditions before changing the entire formulation.

A small second pour or careful surface reheating can also be used where necessary.

Natural Soy Wax Appearance

Minor surface and adhesion variations are normal with vegetable waxes.

These can include:

• frosting;
• uneven tops;
• slight glass-adhesion variation;
• differences in surface texture between batches.

Fragrance, dye, pour temperature and cooling conditions can all influence the final appearance.

Wick Selection

Suitable wick families to test include:

• TB;
• cotton & linen;
• cotton & hemp;
• wooden wicks.

Always validate the final size with a full burn test.

Melt Pool During Burning

A candle does not need to achieve a complete wall-to-wall melt pool during its first burn.

Assess wick performance over several burn cycles, considering flame size, melt-pool depth and width, container temperature, carbon build-up and soot.

A full melt pool on the first burn does not by itself prove that the wick is oversized.

Curing

Allow at least 48 hours before an initial burn test as a practical starting point.

Longer curing can be useful when comparing fragrance performance, but 10–14 days is not a mandatory AAK curing period for GOLDENWAX® 464.

Storage

AAK recommends storing GOLDENWAX® 464 in cool, dry, dark and odour-free conditions.

Recommended storage time is 24 months from the production date when stored unopened under the recommended conditions.
