LCB .04 boosted wooden wicks are designed for testing with waxes that are harder to burn, including 100% soy wax and beeswax for container candles.

Each wick consists of two joined layers: a main wooden wick and a thin booster strip that supports combustion.

The 9.5 mm width is suggested as a starting point for containers with an internal diameter of approximately 50 mm, when using soy wax or beeswax. Suitability depends on the specific combination of wax, fragrance, dye and container and must be confirmed through burn testing.

Pack of 10 wicks. Metal clips are not included. Purchase clips separately.

Wick Features

  • Width: 9.5 mm.

  • Length: 152.4 mm.

  • Thickness: 1.016 mm.

  • Construction: main wooden wick with an additional booster strip.

  • Manufacturer: Makesy, USA.

  • According to manufacturer information, made from wood sourced in accordance with FSC forest management standards.

  • Handmade to order, with no additional chemical treatment.

  • Naturally medium-brown wood.

  • Characteristic crackling, with intensity depending on the wax and fragrance combination.

  • Naturally occurring tannins in the wood may give the wax a brownish tint.

The range includes six widths: 9.5, 12.7, 15.9, 19.1, 22.2 and 25.4 mm. This pack contains 9.5 mm wicks.

Adjusting the Length

Trim the wick to suit the height of your candle. Cutting it in half produces two pieces approximately 76.2 mm long.

Before cutting, consider the clip design, wax fill height and the length of wick needed above the wax. Container volume alone does not determine whether a half-length wick will be long enough.

Natural Wood and Testing

Wooden wicks are a natural product, so their burning behaviour may vary. The manufacturer cannot guarantee completely identical results.

Test at least three candles made with the same formulation and assess their performance throughout their useful life before gifting or selling them. The suggested container diameter alone does not confirm suitability.

Usage Tips

  • Before lighting, trim the wick to approximately 3–5 mm above the wax surface. An overly long wick may burn poorly or extinguish itself.

  • Before relighting, allow the candle to cool and carefully remove the charred portion of the wick.

  • If accumulated char weakens the flame, extinguish the candle, let it cool and then clean the wick.

  • A full melt pool does not necessarily need to form during the first burn. Assess wick performance over several burn cycles.

  • Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.

  • Stop using the candle when approximately 13 mm of wax remains at the bottom.

  • Wooden wicks are not self-trimming. If the flame becomes too high, extinguish the candle and trim the wick once it has cooled.

Fragrance Load

Approximately 6% fragrance oil can be used as a starting point for testing, provided this level is permitted by the specific wax and fragrance documentation.

This is not a universally optimal concentration. Assess flame height, char build-up, wax consumption, scent throw and container temperature.
