Stearic Acid
Stearic Acid for Candle Making
Stearic acid is a hard raw material used in candle making. It can be used both for pillar candles and as an additive to harder or softer wax blends to modify their properties.
Stearic acid differs chemically from wax. In candle making, it is valued for its hardness and suitability for moulded candles.
TEFACID® 1 VL
AAK TEFACID® 1 VL is a stearic acid based on a combination of animal- and plant-derived raw materials. It is suitable for:
- 100% stearin pillar candles;
- tapered and pillar candles;
- use as an additive to increase the hardness of softer waxes.
TEFACID® 1 VL can be blended with other candle-making raw materials to adjust wax hardness and structure. The exact proportion should be selected according to the wax used and the desired properties of the finished candle.
How to Use Stearic Acid
Stearic acid can be used as the main raw material for stearin candles or as an additive in wax blends when greater hardness or different structural properties are required.
As with any candle-making raw material, we recommend carrying out tests with the specific wax or wax blend, fragrance oil, dye, wick and mould before larger-scale production.
