Fragrance Oils That Do Not Require a UFI at Up to 10% in Candles

For your convenience, we have selected fragrance oils which, when used at concentrations of up to 10% in wax, do not require a UFI code for the finished candle based on the available classification information for the individual fragrance.

This may simplify candle labelling and placing products on the market. However, it is important to remember that the manufacturer of the finished product must always assess the complete candle formulation and its final CLP classification. The wax used, fragrance oil concentration, dyes and other additives may affect the classification of the finished product.

Even when a UFI code is not required, the candle may still be subject to other CLP labelling requirements. Before placing the product on the market, its classification must therefore be determined and the appropriate label prepared. We also recommend providing candle safety and care information.

What is a UFI code?

UFI (Unique Formula Identifier) is a 16-character code that links a specific hazardous mixture to information about its composition submitted to poison centres.

For mixtures placed on the EU market that are classified as hazardous due to human health or physical hazards and fall within the scope of Annex VIII to the CLP Regulation, a Poison Centre Notification (PCN) must be submitted and the UFI must be included on the product label. Mixtures classified as hazardous only to the environment are not subject to the PCN/UFI requirement.

Important: this category is intended to make fragrance selection easier, but the classification of the finished product must always be determined according to the specific formulation and the current documentation for the raw materials used.
