How to Burn a Candle Safely?

How to safely burn a candle to the bottom?

We like to light a candle on special occasions when we want to create a cozy environment. It is also a fire in the home, so we should treat it with care.

We have prepared tips to help avoid the dangers of improper and careless candle burning.

  • When making candles, it is useful to have a fire-resistant cloth and / or fire extinguisher nearby.
  • Do not place candles under or on shelves. It is easy to forget that a stream of hot air rises from a burning candle, which will heat the surface close to it. Make sure there is at least one meter from the candle to any surface above it.
  • Do not move the candle when it burns. If you really need to move it, extinguish it first. Make sure that no other objects, such as matches or wick remnants, fall into the wax.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish the candles before leaving the room. Don’t go to bed with a burning candle in the room. Never leave a burning candle in a child’s room.
  • Burn the candle on a heat-resistant surface. Be especially careful when choosing a surface for tealights or long-burning night candles in plastic or metal form, as their bottoms become more hot. For example, the top of the TV is not heat resistant.
  • Keep the candle away from curtains or other similar fabrics.
  • Keep the burning candle out of the reach of children or animals.
  • Burn the pillar candles properly. Such candles melt to spread the aroma, so keep them on a glass or a metal candle holder.
  • Double check that the candle has really gone out. Sometimes extinguished candles still burn and then light up again.
  • Burn the candle on a suitable holder. The holder must be tidy so that it does not fall off.
  • Make sure that neither clothes nor hair come too close to the burning candle. If you think this might happen, for example, by carelessly bending, it is better to move the candle to a safer place.
  • Keep burning candles at a safe distance from each other, i. e. leave a safe distance of at least 10 cm between them.
  • To extinguish the flame, use a special tool  or spoon to soak the wick in a wax. It’s safer than blowing air into a candle. Blowing can spread sparks or hot wax can strike into the sides (especially this is typical for tealights).
